Getting that panicky feeling about not writing for a week. Colorado was so much fun — it turns out to be the state where I know the most people (barring California). Spent some fantastically fun days in Denver and then in the mountains in Crested Butte and Aspen. I spent the day in Utah and just returned to Colorado. So why does my trip suddenly feel like Disneyland?
Arches National Park has beautiful scenery and amazing arches, canyons and vistas. But they are no fun when hundreds of people are standing around you and yakking. I guess I got really spoiled since my trip so far has been crowd-free. I was betting on that since I’m traveling in the off-season. But the West is chock full of tourists. I’m expecting the same when I get to Mesa Verde (cliff dwellings) so the plan is to get in early and get out to Four Corners. There was some escape today in Natural Bridges National Monument. I got to hike down to a beautiful bridge formation and stand right underneath it, completely alone!
